Biography

Dr. Andrea Shaelou is an experienced Obstetrician – Gynaecologist who earned her medical degree from the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece, in 2013. With nine years of experience in prominent Obstetrics-Gynaecology clinics in Germany, she has gained extensive expertise in endoscopic surgery, endometriosis treatment and high-risk pregnancy monitoring.

In November 2019, Dr. Shaelou obtained the title of Obstetrician-Gynaecologist from the Medical Association of Rhineland-Westphalia in Düsseldorf. During her specialisation, she worked at two renowned institutions: St. Johannes Hospital Dortmund, a distinguished Gynaecological and Breast Cancer Center as well as an Endometriosis Center and Lukaskrakenhaus in Neuss, a leading Perinatal Center with more than two thousand births per year. At these facilities, she managed complex high-risk pregnancies, including twin pregnancies and vaginal births after Cesarean section (VBAC). Dr. Shaelou performed a wide range of procedures independently, including natural births, challenging cesarean sections and various gynaecological surgeries, both endoscopic and open. After completing her specialisation, she continued working at Lukaskrakenhaus as a Consultant.

Subsequently, Dr. Shaelou assumed the position of Consultant at the gynaecological clinic of Bethesda Krankenhaus in Duisburg, Germany, which specialises in Endometriosis and Gynaecological Oncology. During her tenure, she received essential training in laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and other benign gynaecological conditions under the guidance of Dr. Harald Krentel, a renowned gynaecological surgeon and President of the European Endometriosis League. She developed a particular interest in oncological cases, focusing on accurate diagnosis and exploring treatment options. Additionally, she took charge of the clinic for cervical dysplasia and colposcopy after completing her education from the professional Association of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (AGCPC).

Dr. Shaelou served as a surgical trainer for medical residents and taught students at the medical school of the Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf. She actively participated in numerous gynaecological and obstetrical conferences in Germany and abroad, continuously expanding her knowledge and obtaining important certifications. She is certified by the German Ultrasound Association (DEGUM – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ultraschall in der Medizin) to perform Doppler examinations during pregnancy, a critical procedure for monitoring fetal development and preventing pathologies such as pre-eclampsia. Dr. Shaelou also holds certifications in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery (Minimal Invasive Chirurgie – MIC I) from the German Endoscopy Society (AGE) and in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology from the German Association Kinder- und Jugendgynaekologie e.V.

Since November 2022, Dr. Shaelou has established her practice equipped with state-ofthe-art technology at the Mother and Child Medical Center in Nicosia, Cyprus.
